Beacons for Good is Kontakt.io’s Way of Giving Back

When Szymon, Tomek, Rafal, and Tomek founded Kontakt.io back in ancient mists of history (well, two years ago), they developed a bluetooth low energy device that was designed to help the visually impaired have a better experience in museums. While Kontakt.io has changed a whole lot since 2013, our desire to help make the world a better place for people in need hasn’t. So today we launch Beacons For Good, a crowdsourced approach to finding the best ways to use beacons for good all around the world.
The idea behind #B4G is simple: if you’re a charity or a developer who’s working with a charity, it can be hard to make a small rollout of a program with proximity because beacons aren’t cheap. So we’ll take care of it for you. Submit your idea for how you’ll transform people’s lives with beacons and you receive up to 100 beacons to help make your idea a reality. Now, you still have to do all of the hard work of making the application, testing it, and getting people to use it, but the hard costs of getting the actual beacons for the project can be covered by Beacons For Good.
Every quarter, we will put the ideas that are submitted for Beacons For Good up for a vote on https://beaconsforgood.org and will also host a live judging session with partners like Wayfindr and Blindsquare where we evaluate the ideas that have been submitted. At the end of the judging, we’ll select the winning idea or ideas to receive beacons to make their concepts come true.
